We were having a drink with some people who helped to make arrangements for tomorrow’s award ceremony when one of them, in a voice filled with emotions, told us a story of his family: He is a busy man, always moving around to take charge of cultural and social matters, and hardly having time for his own family. It has been quite long until he is aware of his distant niece’s endeavour story and then all he wished is to meet the long-unknown benefactors of his family: Sunshine Scholarship Foundation (SSF). To his amazement, his niece has been the scholarship recipient for 5 years now. She and a brother were orphans and brought up thanks to some relatives’ help. They had been living miserable lives since their parents’ death and had to do any job that was offered to them, even the shameless ones that were exploiting their cheap labour. She then used the hard-earned pennies for schooling and had fairly high academic achievements; that is when she has been selected to SSF.
She told her uncle that SSF opened up a new world for her, a world of love, hope and mutual help, free from unfairness and abuse. Now that she graduates from pedagogy college and actually becomes a junior high school teacher, she will commit herself to helping the disadvantaged children like the one she used to be. We are happy that we can be of help to those who need it most.
